Illustration & Graphic Design
Rachel works in the space between illustration and graphic design. After four years spent gaining experience at design studios in her native Barcelona, Rachel moved to The Netherlands in 2008 to start her own practice. Editorial illustration is now the core of her client work, though she still welcomes challenging graphic design projects. The interaction of these distinct but complementary disciplines has forged Rachel’s unique creative style – minimal, clean, colourful and playful.
Together with Amy Suo Wu and Tim Braakman, she organizes the yearly zine festival held at WORM (Rotterdam), called Zine Camp where the main focus is to make zines together, but more importantly to socialise, collaborate and make friends.
Her portfolio for a wide range of clients now includes: editorial illustration, corporate identity, layout design (both for print and web); infographics, product photography and CD covers, amongst others. In 2014 Rachel started an ongoing personal project with ceramics called Potheads.
Rachel is deeply curious about people: why do they do what they do, and how do they behave in specific situations? She works her observations and insights into her illustrations, often with affectionate humour to engage with her audience.
In 2014 she started teaching in the illustration department of the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam.
